1815: After nineteen years of hard labor, violence, and suffering for the theft of a loaf of bread, Jean Valjean is released from prison. Filled with rage and a deep sense of injustice, he has become a man who trusts no one. He finds refuge in Bishop Bienvenu’s house and is surprised by the bishop’s warm welcome.
