Vahid, an Azerbaijani auto mechanic, was once imprisoned by Iranian authorities. During his sentence, he was interrogated and tortured  blindfolded. One day, a man named Eghbal enters his workshop. His prosthetic leg creaks, and Vahid thinks he recognizes one of his former torturers. He kidnaps Eghbal to get his revenge, but soon doubts arise as to whether Eghbal really is the monster that Vahid suspects him to be.

The Stranger

Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi is one of the most idiosyncratic voices in European auteur cinema. Her new film, which was screened in competition at Venice, won Luna Wedler the Mastroianni Award for best young discovery and became a critics' favorite, expanding her poetic universe. Three timelines run through the film, connected by the backdrop of the university campus in Marburg.

Coming of Age

Michael Triegel's painting style differs from that of his colleagues at the Leipzig School. He paints like the Old Masters and cites Michelangelo, Raphael, and Dürer as his role models. In 2020, Triegel received an extraordinary commission: to design the destroyed central section of the altar in Naumburg Cathedral. Almost 500 years earlier, the painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder fell victim to iconoclasm.

After 25 years as a team manager at a paper factory, family man Man-soo loses his job. Iraq in the 1990s. While Saddam Hussein celebrates his birthday nationwide, 9-year-old Lamia draws a dreaded lot at her school: she has to bake the cake for the local celebrations. An almost impossible task, as there is a food shortage in the country. With only two days to spare, the help of her classmate Saeed, and accompanied by her rooster Hindi, she sets out in search of ingredients.
