Budapest, 1957: Twelve-year-old Andor Hirsch grows up in a city marked by Soviet control following the failed anti-communist uprising. Returning from the orphanage, he lives with his mother again, who wants to start a new life with the butcher Berend. For Andor, however, his dead father, a conductor, remains his inner compass. But his closeness to Berend reveals a truth that shakes his self-image.
