The Dashwoods are a wealthy, respected family. When the head of the family dies, he leaves his entire estate to his son John. His second wife and their daughters Elinor, Marianne and Margaret have to make do with a meagre annual pension. On top of that, Elinor and Marianne are also unlucky in love. After a brief period of happiness, they lose their chosen ones to other women – or so it seems. In the midst of this crisis, the two find the strength to make a fresh start.
