England, 18th century. Ann Lee (Amanda Seyfried) establishes a religious community that advocates gender equality and whose worship services feature rhythmic dance performances. As hostility grows, Ann Lee leads her small group of followers across the Atlantic to build a new utopia. However, the price of her vision is high.
